WonderChamps

Unity Developer | Not Boring Company | 2024 | WebGL | Hackathon

3D racing game built around a unique wheel-drawing mechanic, real-time multiplayer, and lightweight WebGL performance.

Built a multiplayer racing game around a custom core mechanic.

WonderChamps focused on fast-paced multiplayer racing where players dynamically draw their own wheels during gameplay. My work covered the project end-to-end, lightning-fast development ranging from gameplay systems and multiplayer architecture to optimization and final polish for WebGL deployment.

The game won Base Onchain Summer 2024.

Built the project from prototype to final polish.

What I Built

  • Built the game end-to-end, covering gameplay systems, multiplayer, optimization, and production polish in under a month.
  • Implemented the game's core wheel-drawing mechanic and integrated it into the racing flow.
  • Designed gameplay interactions to remain readable and responsive even during fast-paced multiplayer sessions.

Impact

  • Created a gameplay identity that stood out through a unique player-driven racing mechanic.
  • Helped the project feel responsive and readable despite the chaotic nature of multiplayer gameplay.

Optimized the game for lightweight WebGL deployment.

What I Built

  • Handled optimization across runtime performance, asset usage, and WebGL deployment constraints.
  • Reduced build size by over 70% while maintaining visual readability and gameplay responsiveness.
  • Maintained mostly stable 60 FPS gameplay performance.

Impact

  • Created a lightweight WebGL experience that loaded and ran smoothly across a wider range of devices.
  • Improved gameplay stability without sacrificing the core feel of the racing experience.

Try the WebGL build.

The playable build loads only when launched. On desktop it opens in a focused overlay; on mobile it opens in a new tab for a cleaner play experience.
The game is quite outdated compared to our submitted version, because I can't find the original build files, so pardon the unfinished state.
